Dear fellow collectors, let is start a thread in the honor of the 238 AD emperors. I want to begin with a Gordian II. denarius.
I'm a closet collector of cheap, common Gordian III ants, nothing like your rare and beautiful denarius. I won't post them all, but here are a few.
Here's a sestertius of Gordian III. This would be a good thread to add your coins of Pupienus and Balbinus. (I don't have any.)
Then I would like to show my Balbinus, which I purchased a long time ago at ebay at a time when one could acquire nice coins there. Fro me, from point of the style, this coin is clearly superior to the Gordian II..
How about Maximus MAXIMUS AE Sestertius OBVERSE: MAXIMVS CAES GERM - Bare-headed, draped bust right REVERSE: PRINCIPI IVVENTVTIS - Maximus standing left, holding baton and spear, two standards behind Struck at Rome, 236-238 AD 18.3g, 28.5mm RIC 9, C 14 or Maximinus I MAXIMINUS I AE Sestertius OBVERSE: IMP MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG - Laureate, draped bust right. REVERSE: SALVS AVGVSTI - Salus seated left, feeding snake on altar Struck at Rome, 235-236 AD March - January 20.7g, 29.5mm RIC 85
Great coins! I especially like your Balbinus denarius, Marc. He looks a bit like an uncle of mine in that portrait

BTW, a neighbor of my mother, who unfortunately passed away, took this photo of the Balbinus denarius where the item is depicted in in a similar manner as on the pictures of Ancient Joe's coins. Unfortunately, I am lacking the knowledge how to do this.
