Well I dont have very many coins from NZ so was very happy when these turned up this morning the 6d's weere a true bonus as I had no idea that they would be included in the lot :thumb: Florins 1947 1948 1950 1964 1965 6d 1947 1965 1d 1952 1956 De Orc
Steve,we used to get the 6d.,1/-,& 2/- coins in change, that is until late last year, when we got new coins & all the old coins were pulled from circulation & demonetised. You've got the start of a New Zealand collection that will keep on growing. There are some varieties that are worth looking out for; 1942 3d. no diamond after the date. 1955 3d. 2 dots on head. 1956 3d. no shoulder strap on head. 1957 6d. no shoulder strap on head. 1965 6d. broken wing. 1942 & 1958 1/- broken back of the Maori. 1962 1/- missing ground line behind the Maori. 1946 2/- flat back on top of the Kiwi. Aidan.
Thanks Aidan have made a note of them to watch out for them, as I do hope to get more NZ pre decimal issues. They should go well with my NZ stamp collection :smile De Orc :kewl:
Here we go my 1st NZ 1/- or should I call it 10c coin dated 1969 LOL I have to say that I love the design on it. De Orc
Steve, the key dates in New Zealand 2/- are the 1936,1944,& 1963.All the Queen Elizabeth II 2/6 are hard to find as is the 1940 Centenary 2/6.The 1949 5/- is a common coin,as is the 1953.The 1935 5/- is extremely scarce. Aidan.
Strangly I very rairly see NZ pre decimal for sale over here, this is a bit of a shame as I do like the designs on them. De Orc
Steve, the 1967-69 10c. coins are inscribed,as it was a way of facilitating the change over to decimal currency,as even after the change over on the 10.7.1967,people were still thinking in terms of Pounds,Shillings,& Pence & the host of expressions that have fallen out of use since the decimal changeover. Aidan.
