Sent by registered mail from the UK in early October, this package disappeared from tracking at the handoff from UK to US. Royal Mail says the package was handed off to the overseas carrier; USPS does not recognize the tracking number.

It's still a week too early for Royal Mail to open an investigation but I don't have a good feeling about this. If you see it for sale somewhere please let me know.

Hurts to see a coin this beautiful and know that it's currently missing. I hope it finds its way to its rightful home sooner rather than later. For what it's worth, I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Beautiful coin. I'll keep my fingers crossed and my thumbs tucked that it shows up.

*rats* ... you've told me this tale in a previous e-mail, but I am very sorry to hear that your sweet purchase still hasn't arrived (it really is an absolutely stunning beauty => I still have faith that it's trying to find your welcoming door-step!!)

    ... good luck, my friend

My eyes are now on constant watch!!

My prayers are with you. Good luck as its a beauty.

I just opened a claim for a lost taler shipped in the US. I made the mistake again of shipping standard insured. Only express where it doesn't sit for long makes sense.

Give it a few days, but its possible it went to the abyss that is NY Customs like 3 packages of mine did...from LANZ only though.

It could just show up but since it was sent by registered mail I am not optimistic. In all other instances of packages from Royal Mail, once they hit the NY/NJ sort center they appear in tracking. This package's tracking number simply doesn't exist as far as USPS is concerned.

I've had packages that disappeared from tracking once they left their country of origin, and just reappeared in my mail box... Just got mixed up with the regular mail on their way ;)

Good looking coin, hope everything turns out ok. The USPS is known for some crazy tracking and delivery. Had a package the other week stated delivered on a Sunday.

Hey TIF => ummm, maybe the mailman delivered it to the wrong address? ....

Yup, it's time to take this hunt to the hood!! (door-to-door witch-hunt)

=> "Open-up Peterson, I know you're in there => hand over my coin!!!"

    .... *sigh* ...

just tryin' to make light of a dim situation (good luck, coin-girlfriend)

Could a piece such as this get flagged by Customs? Some parcels can go through a Customs 'retention period' before final delivery is made by the carrier. Might be worth looking for a route to inquire with USPS or Customs if this is what's causing the delay. Check info at the link above. Hope it comes through for you in the end.

It is supposed to come to the office but I'm also keeping an eye on my PO box. The postal ladies are helpful and I'll ask them to see if a notice could have been put in the wrong box.

I have always been able to track packages as they make their way into and out of customs but this package tracking number is not even in the USPS system.

I spoke with USPS. As far as they're concerned it does not exist; they have no way to track it. Apparently incoming package tracking numbers are sent by the originating carrier and then the packages are received and checked against the list. They did not receive this number or perhaps the number was mis-entered.

Royal Mail can initiate an investigation no sooner than November 11; the rep said it's the sender's responsibility to do so. Interestingly, the sender hasn't expressed much concern or willingness to help. I will become a thorn in their side if November 11 arrives without the package.

There are probably many ways a package can be lost. Perhaps it will just show up some day.

amazingly, I've only had one coin-order "lost" (associated with 300 ancient coins) ... yah and even then, the dude and I worked-out a way to make each other "happy-enough" ...

I love ancient coins ... between you guys (the ancient-coin-gallery) and the sellers (every single one has been top-notch, helpful and huge customer service!!) ... yah, I love collecting ancient-coins (good bunch of dudes!!)

.... oooops, sorry TIF => maybe there is a bad seed in the bunch, every now and then? (good luck, coin-sis ... I still have "hope")

Sometimes these small packages become wedged under a conveyor belt or stuck in a chute somewhere and don't get discovered till the maintenance or cleaning crew people start poking around the machinery on some unrelated task or issue. I'm thinking this might be the case. Here's hoping your package arrives soon Tif.........

It is still missing but the auction house has initiated a trace. I'm still hoping it will someday arrive but if not, they will refund all expenses.

Meanwhile, another coin has "gone dark" in tracking. It arrived in New York (from Switzerland) but there are no further entries. The next stop would be Customs in NJ and from what others have said, it is not uncommon for coins to be held there up to 45 days without any obligation for updates. I expect it will eventually continue its journey.

*rats* ... sorry TIF, but when I saw this thread-title I was hoping to hear about a happy ending for your wonderful coins ...

Hey, maybe you could use my northern house as Base Camp One? ... once your coins arrive, I will forward them to your Bermuda Triangle paradise!!?

... just jokes ... hopefully their journey will end successfully

I had a package missing for a month (USPS First Class Insured). I opened a claim and.... a day later it started moving. They probably send people to look when a claim is opened. There is hope just takes time.
