Totally shocked, as I had not logged on to the Mint website before yesterday. The website was completely re-designed, and one had to re-do the passwords. It was a much more attractive site, and actually made the Mint look good in doing so. Also, I ordered the Kennedy 4 coin set, and got a notice that it was shipping within a two hour window of ordering it. Is the demand so low for that set, or did the Mint actually get its act together? Comments more than welcome.
There's another thread on this - they seem to have finally gotten their act together with the redesign of the site as well as getting a new firm to do their order fulfillment....
Definitely got's their act together on this one. I ordered the set after 4PM yesterday and I just got an e-mail from them (mint) that the package is in the mail. Impressive change from the other system.
I agree that the website is better other than the ending the 10% discount program at the same moment. They should have waited until the end of 2014 so that the two were detached.
The updated website has been discussed. As usual, some like it and some hate it. As for the Silver Kennedy Set, I think they might have listened to the complaints from their most recent releases. They had 150K sets ready to go before they even allowed orders. This seems to have pleased all the buyers, me included.
While I agree that the site is attractive, give me the old site anytime. I find it harder to navigate to find things than the old site. Yesterday was the first time I logged into the site since it was redesigned and two problems came up. I did my ordering, changed my password, etc. as requested and then started to check out. I got to the final phase of checkout to confirm my order and up pops a message that states "Please accept the terms and conditions." So I'm looking at my computer screen and scratching my head and wondering how I can accept the terms and conditions as I could not locate anything anywhere to do this. After I called the mint to have them complete my ordering did I find out that there should have been a yes or no box to check to accept the terms. Unfortunately my screen did not show these boxes. I then used my wife's computer to order a Proof Set and the exact same problem arose on her computer. I suspect the problem must be with our computers but am clueless as to what it may be. The other problem that I encoutered was when I went to order a 2014 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set that came out, I believe, in May. First I couldn't find it using the pull down menus. I then did a search and received a "not found." So now I'm left to wonder is there such a thing, is it sold out, has it been eliminated? I think the web site should have a place to tell you what happened to something that you want to order that's not there for some reason.
Personally, I think the US Mint is going crazy and being run by crazy people. Aside from the yucky web page modifications, I just read where these nut jobs are considering monkeying around with proof set finishes and offering as many as 4 different proof sets in 2015! Additionally, the "idea" of commemorating "their products" appears to be gaining a foothold with the possibility of "commemorating" the Winged Liberty Design of 1916! It will not be too much longer before folks start committing to these wacky programs only to have the plugs pulled somewhere down the line when product offerings exceed their capacity to supply demand. This exact scenario occurred at the end of 2008 which left some folks holding the bag on "incomplete" and "never to be completed" collections. And, while the Kennedy 4 Coin Silver Offering is readily available, I will not be expecting the same service for future offerings as folks need to remember the fiasco (created by the mint) over the HOF coins and the Gold Kennedy Half Dollar (again a fiasco created by the mint)! To avoid this same thing from occurring, they made sure that 150,000 sets were available for shipping before they ever went on sale. The very fact that MorganDude was able to order a set AND get it shipped within the hour tells me that the madding "crush" simply did not occur and I do not know why other than the fact that maybe folks just don't care anymore?
Commemorating the classic coinage is much better than the garbage that has been coming out recently - baseball (which by some miracle was popular - no shortage of idiots I guess), Girl Scouts, Civil Rights Act, etc. Not that the Girl Scouts and the others are not a worthy cause but the designs sucked and/or the topics seem too PC and the sales reflected that. Soon we can look forward to the March of Dimes. Hooray. Bring on the classics - or take a serious look at some of the foreign mints.
