Why you hate eBay or pcgs (or both don't let me box you in)

With all due respect, Josh; after viewing your left feedback as a whole, because of the pattern presented, it's probably the sellers who deserve the benefit of the doubt here. What this shows is that more often than not it's you, not the sellers, who are at fault yet instead of taking a little personal responsibility for your mistakes/oversights, you're more than willing to punish others for things not going your way. Now, with your desire to be a dealer/seller, do you really think this reflects positively upon you to anyone who considers making a purchase and decides to check your feedback?

What's done is done, but in the future I would suggest you hold others to the same standard you wish to be held. I'm sorry, Josh, but you've bested even Detecto in the number of negs left, and THIS should tell you something.

eBay is the worlds largest coin shop and its open 24/7, the only way you can go wrong with that is if you don't know how to navigate it.

PCGS on the other hand has been bothering me a lot lately with the market grading I've seen from them especially on early copper cents and half cents (as well as some other coins too). They seem to be letting a lot of questionable coins slide and especially in copper I could make a long list of coins they have called problem free that are anything but.

  6. 22 feedbacks with that many negatives. Wow. You either have poor taste in sellers, or you are looking for Santa Claus in crappy auctions. I am well over 500 with 95% of them as a buyer, and I have never had to leave a negative. Something isn't adding up.

  7. I agree 100% with this, and I am glad you made your argument this time without dumbing it down with the "kool aid" reference.

They have over 150,000 ngc and pcgs coins for sale. Can you name another place to go buy coins with even 5% of that?

At least for me, PCGS and eBay are the best thing that has happened to the hobby. Ebay provides more variety than any LCS, and PCGS (along with NGC) gives me the assurance that the coins I am buying online have been looked at by somebody who knows what they are doing. Sure, they make mistakes too, but not as big of ones as eBay sellers of raw coins often make. So even if the seller is a complete sleazeball it doesn't really matter, because both eBay and the TPG's are providing a level of assurance to the transaction. When the overall transaction risk in any market (not just coins) is lowered, everyone benefits.

Personally I probably would not be buying as many coins if my choices were limited to uncertified coins at local coin shops, and I am guessing that this would be true of many others as well. Therefore as one of the "little guys" I am doing my small part to raise demand for coins and provide greater liquidity to the market.

I'm not saying that the TPG's or eBay are perfect, but the situation now is sure a lot better than it was 20 or 30 years ago. I can still remember my first mail order coin purchase back in 1985 when I bought a 1949s dime graded "Choice BU 63" and received an obviously circulated coin in the mail. The TPG's have made it a lot harder for people to get away with selling grossly overgraded crap, so I'm sure there are dealers who used to make a lot of money doing this who aren't happy to have PCGS calling the shots.

Actually, you didn't name a place "to go" -- you named a place that is closed to us mere mortal collectors -- reserved for back alley trading and shuffling of plastic coffins between dealers. :D

Ahhhh but it isn't closed to us mere mortals at all. I myself used to be a member of a couple of them. All that is required to be a member and use those networks is for us to pay the same annual dues that dealers pay to use them ;)

    Aren't those networks sight unseen?

I believe so. They are trading low end common coins.

Agreed. I'm around 300 transactions, and I don't think I have ever left a negative. nor have I ever received one. ::fingers crossed::

<50 transactions with negatives, something is not right...

I'll see your bet, and raise you. If I was limited to RAW and LOCAL, I would not be buying ANY coins. PCGS / NGC and CAC got me back into this hobby.

    ..... Oh, and CoinTalk! :D
