I don't hate either , ebay is basically a well stocked flea market with both good and bad , unfortunately the bad stuff is getting way more common .

Two things I don't like about eBay are their seller fees and the fact that you need to accumulate a minimum of $5 eBay bucks in order to use them.
I understand they have to make money but if they dropped their final value fees a few percentage points I'd be happy.
And the eBay bucks thing, that's just annoying.

My only beef with PCGS is their slabs. I think they're ugly, cheap, and unprofessional looking.

No one wants to complain about eBay on a complain about eBay thread but they do it everywhere else.

I don't dislike ebay at all. I think they provide a great service and have done a lot to help with the hobby. Coins are easier to obtain and sell because of it. Collectors can more easily get coins than in the past and those who seek to profit from coins can do so much better having a global marketplace.

Does it have flaws? Sure, but what doesn't?

We shouldn't let the perfect become the enemy of the good.

I do dislike PCGS and do not and never plan to use their services. The primary reason is their First Strike designation is a blatant lie and I don't know how in good conscience they can continue to use it.

At least NGC uses the phrase Early Releases, which at least falls within the realm of truth and reality.

Bidding wars almost always have everything to do with the item being sold, and nothing to do with the venue.

Unfortunately, I have seen far too many instances of one eBayer in particular bidding way over the top, and then backing out of the deal. By that I do not mean accepting delivery and then returning the coin to the seller for relisting - I mean the winning bidder, having committed to a higher purchase price than he wanted, convinces the seller to cancel the transaction before shipment of the goods.

It's got to be just as frustrating for the sellers as it is for the underbidders, yet eBay does nothing to mitigate this behavior.

I'd just ask him the guy is not known for being reserved on this forum.

Yep, a good example of why simple FB counts shouldn't guide your shopping. I might've overlooked a neg if if looked like the buyer purchased "local pickup only" and then expected the seller to ship. But a response like that tells me to avoid that seller like the plague.

It looks like one time you didn't receive the item. The other times were a local pickup only (which apparently you ignored), a pre-sale which noted and you ignored, and one person took too long to ship...which who knows how long that was.

It seems to me that you need to read the auctions a little better.

    Here we go again
The 2 items that were local pickup also had a usps delivery option thus the seller never shipped. The presale was fixed and I offered to change my feedback to positive but I never heard back from the guy. The guy that took too long to ship took 3 weeks to ship and I paid same day the auction ended.

Coming at me for everything is getting quite annoying. Perhaps you can replace this sort of thing with stealing candy from a baby if that's the sort of thing that puts you on your high horse.

I'm actually not taking a shot here I have never actually bothered to leave feedback so I'm not familiar with the system. Question- does the guy have to respond to you for you to change your feedback?

When you have opinions some people will misinterpret and others will just take offense. If you want to speak your mind there are many people who equate not agreeing with taking offense. For example there are many versions of both politics and religion. Remember this is just one example but a good one. Simply agreeing with any one religion or version of politics is bound to offend at least 20% of people. There are many people in this world who feel that there is no agreeing to disagree. Either you think their way or you are a four letter word of your choice. Some will even cut your head off and post it on the internet when you disagree with their god. Try speaking of politics in china or North Korea. My point is there is a minority of people but a vocal minority who will act this way.

    Example given.
    https://www.cointalk.com/threads/are-coin-dealers-irrelevant.246287/
All the op is opening for discussion is the concept that the internet is now allowing collectors to sell directly to each other making dealers obsolete. That is it but you will see he becomes accused of being anti coin dealer. His op has nothing about liking or disliking dealers just about the relevance of them.

I talk about some, a minority of coin dealers acting like children and others who support this. Now I'm anti coin dealer. I have strong opinions about the minority, and i have not seen many good deals at coin shows. Others have posted their finds so I do know they are out there but my personal experience (and some others as well) is that slabbed coins at shows are in general priced over market value (not over grey, over the over grey). And I'm just better at online purchasing then at shows. I did buy coin on eBay for a few years and sell to dealers at shows and actually had only a few negative encounters. But it is the culture of the acceptance of the comic book guy behavior that has me so fascinated. Even though there are a small percentage people support the comic book guy. So this is my interest and I talk at length about this. But now I hate all coin dealers, or so they say. Oh well.

I'm ok with that. I enjoy my little online debates and honestly don't have my little feelings hurt when some random people disagree, make assumptions or even insult me. I'm not made of glass and it gives me something mindless to do to clear my head.

The other issue is the more of your personal information that is available the more extraneous information the people will be able to use against you. I'm not saying not to speak about your own life. Just realize the more info of yours that is out there the more ammo people have to use against you. Using the same internet name on your eBay, here and your coin website just gives people more info.

Ok so why do I think this thread was aimed to get me riled up. First pcgs I like their slabs love coin facts and when they get it right their great. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired and in the last year or so their grading consisitency has gotten terrible id say theyget it right maybe 75% of the time which with all the money I've paid them and others is not nearly often enough. And the bs details especially for qc and cleaning or enviro damage is getting old. I've sent them coins that had problems I missed and they caught I got no problem with that. I've sent them coins with problems I missed and so did they. But when you send them a coin that neither you or a couple well respected dealers with years of experience spent time studying thoroughly and can't find a thing wrong with and they detail it that I have a big problem with
As to sleaze bay where do I start no seller protection tons of fakes nothing of any quality (especially early Americana) high fees and the most abysmal customer service short of the dmv they suck they really suck. I'm happy to say I'll never do business on there ever again not as a buyer not as a seller. There's plenty more places that are far more business friendly. Between ha and stacks local auctions and estates and reputable coin dealers I can find far more great coins then I can afford. As to the antique Americana I deal in there's so much fake items fake and new paint and surfaces and just plain garbage neither me or any of my customers do any appreciable business on there. They cut their own throat I feel.

I have no problems with the total Ebay process. Out of 1,000+ transactions(average value transaction $200+), and I sell four times more than I buy. I have had maybe five bad ones. Which I consider not a bad percentage of jerks, vis a vis to non Ebay transactions.

What I hate about Ebay is if I do have a problem, and if I phone and get customer service in the US or Canada it is fine. If I get India, I need to get a couple of strong drinks (and I don't drink). I sometimes feel that if an India C/S rep reluctantly gets you his supervisor, he thinks he will be instantly transformed into a cow.
