Here is an antoninianus of the Roman Emperor Trajan Decius who went down swinging so-to-speak... Tell me what you think (consensus grade opinion) is on this one. I really don't know the grading standards for ancients. Take Care & Thanks for looking Ben
in the case of an acient coin, its in pretty good shape though the portrait is unfortunatly in pretty bad shape...I have been looking for a Decius with a fine portrait...its hard to find...they just werent struck well as a norm.
Hello Bone, Nice reverse indeed, as stated by Drusus, it's not so easy to find nice portraits. Try Syrian tetradrachms : big flan, sharp detail, bold strike... Cucumbor
Ben is it my eyesight or does he look a bit like Bugs Bunny?? there seems to be something wrong round the mouth area. De Orc :smile
Yes, there is some damage near the mouth, but it's (lifetime) guaranteed to be authentic. I purchased it a few years ago, here is the seller. http://www.ancientcoins.ca/ Take Care Ben
Hello, I see nothing wrong with the coin. The bugs Bunny effect comes from a slight double strike around the nose, upper lip and chin. This guy was not of the stiff upper lip kind. LOL BTW, Bone your Elagabalus tet is a beauty Cucumbor
Here's mine: Trajan Decius Silver Antoninianus (Rome mint) IMP C M Q TRAIANVS DECIVS AVG Radiate, draped, cuirassed bust right GENIVS EXERC ILLVRICIANI Genius standing left with patera and cornucopiae, standard at right RIC 16c RSC 49 He was the first Roman Emperor to be killed in battle, in 251 AD against the Goths.
Cucumbor, thanks for taking a look and Willieboy2 that's a gorgeous example. Thanks for posting the picture Take Care Ben
I have one from Syria and from all appearances it did a lot of "ground time".Nonetheless,it is still a good strike. And yes,I now know its "billon",not "billion"
Nice coin Mike, thanks for posting a picture. I can't get over the slabbing and cataloging you do. They always look great Ben
