    Hi Guys,

I have just found this forum and have already found some really useful information on it.

I have a question about Bank Note Storage. I have read about different products to store notes in and decided to go with sleeves. I have read that PVC is a no go, unless its for shipping due to it being stiffer.

I found these sleeves and bought them: http://www.lighthouse.us/epages/lig...ectPath=/Shops/leuchtturm_us/Products/HBNP176

They are good, but i dont like the fact they are only sealed on 1 long side and a flap on the other long side. So one of my questions is are they any good?

I would have liked to purchase some mylar sleeves but cant find anyone in Europe that stocks them and will ship to germany. Do you know of anyone?

Also I have quite a collection of notes and would like to either make a box to store them in or buy one, but not sure what material is best? Would a wooden box be better than say a metal one?

    I hope someone can help.

    Thank you!

These holders are fine for paper money and this type (sealed on one side only) is used by most collectors and dealers. You will find that they are probably made out of the same material as Mylar. Mylar is a registered trade name that only DuPont and its licensees can use.

Thanks lettow for the reply. That makes me feel a bit better about those sleeves.

Do you have any opinion on the second part about where to store the sleeves with notes? a wooden box, cardboard, metal?

    Thanks!

Most of my notes are in this type of holder inside envelopes stacked in cardboard photo boxes.

All my raw notes are in sleeves in Crown Royal tin containers.

Mine are either in Lindner binders/pages or stacked in a metal sdb. The only choice I'd question is wood, but that's not an educated statement.

Storage is a big concern had a bunch of old baseball cards stored in the tradirional
plastic sleeves and they cracked and ruined the cards :)

Thanks for the information guys. I have bought some new sleeves to hold some fractional currency as the Lighthouse PREMIUM 176 Currency Sleeves were far to big for them and apparently that is the smallest size they do. Some of the notes I have are stamp size. I have bought some Lindner (http://www.lindner-original.de/en/schutzhullen-140-x-80-mm.html) sleeves, the only issue I have is that although they say "All protective sleeves are made from a crystal clear, acid and chemical softener free plastic film." from what I have read on this site essentially if they smelly like plastic then they will be bad for the notes stored in them. Can anyone confirm if these are ok to use for banknote storage or not.

I also have some of these: http://www.safepub.com/categories/archival-sleeves-cover-holders/p/sleeves-sport-card-mediumweight and again they smell strongly of plastic. This is such a pain to make sure you use the right sleeves.

    Thanks!
