I told the seller it was a fake , and he responded that he didn't know it . Also in Breens there is no mention of a repunched 8 like this coin seems to show . Most likely it is not cast but made from a real coin acting as a hub . That would account for the mushy features .
My modest experience taught me if something doesn't look right (not talking about errors) just walk away coins or any other issue.
Hi Victor never assume! you have me Mixted up with someone else that we both know. You have to get your facts straight and be very careful what you say about people.I didn't know the barber quarter was a fake.I will be addressing this issue with the person I bought from who we both know.
I have to commend you for pulling the auction. The dealer who alerted me to the coin made the assumption it was a certain Connecticut person as the seller. Yes I was wrong to continue that assumption. However I'm not sure I know you. I can probably guess where you bought it. Again, sorry for the mixup.
Hi you should not assume deceitful! When one didn't know It was a fake. I guess it faked me out. instead of reporting it to eBay you should have reported it to me. There are some honest people out there. You should give people benefit of the Doubt. Before condemning them.
Welcome to Coin Talk. Hope you stick around here. As stated I did not report to ebay. Also I'm not one to report to sellers either. As you say it is hard to determine fakes. That's why I posted here to get the opinion of others. I was not 100% positive it was a fake myself. As far as condemnation, I'm not condemning, however I do have issues with the person you bought it from. Again I commend you for doing the right thing and hope you get your money back.
Yep it's old and outdated , but a good start but far from complete . What did it for me was date camparisons and the overall coins mushiness . Thanks Troutmanbruno for pulling it .
This coin was actually relatively easy to tell compared to some of the fakes I have seen floating around.
The entire reason we use organizations like eBay is so we don't have to sit here and squabble with the seller or buyer about whether something is real or not. When I click the "report" button, they take care of the problem without me getting my hands dirty. Whether the seller of this item was intentionally dishonest doesn't really interest me. What interests me is getting it off the market and making sure the sellers (and buyers) can spot the real from the fake. In my opinion, no respectable dealer will sell something so obviously fake. Either this was a lapse in moral judgment or a lapse in attention to detail. Either way, it's not my problem and speaking directly to sellers can make it so. Reporting allows me to maintain anonymity and avoid situations like this where the dealer is offended and wants to talk to me personally about it. With all due respect, I have no desire to talk to you. Please have a great day.
To the new poster/seller: we did not know you nor know that you would pull the item. look at this obvious fake that sold: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1795-FLOWIN...rOsc06OX87GXXgjMmKrkU%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc There is no way that the seller did not know it was a fake, and ripped someone off by $1311. eBay did not pull the auction, and the seller is/was/still is wrong for selling a fake. I am sure that he received many notes saying it was NG, and it still sold. So, in summary, don't get yourself upset, we did not know you, or your ethics. Accept our comments for the good faith that they were made in, just an honest appraisal of the auction. Perhaps if you stay around you'll find some good folks here, and realize that we just police the internet to protect others.
I have to agree with LD here. It was almost a laughable fake to me. But I consider myself a bit more versed in the series than most, so I can see how this might fool the type collector. Edit: This coin was posted months ago on ebay when I first saw it. I reported it then, but that was after eBay decided to get rid of their fake coin vigilante group.
Yup 2 posts troutman. I wonder how he learned his coin was being discussed here? Methinks someone here tipped him off.
