I tried to show the luster well, so some of the PCGS slabs look a little dark, but I was more concerned with the coin. Didn't want to overexpose them and just make them look "flat". Hope you agree.
Hi Skyman, beautiful coin, great picture and details! If it is graded, what grade is it and who graded it? Thanks, Al
thanks! I love 'em too and a set of the early dates in F-VF (working on it) is real easy on the eyes.
It's not my coin, but I am familiar with it. It is in a NGC PF66 Cameo holder, and is one of a handful or so of cameo designated coins for this date. In fact, NGC/PCGS combined have only designated 17 coins ever.
Thank you Al! Sorry I didn't see this post earlier. I was out of town when you posted it. The coin is graded NGC PR66CAMEO. It's one of only 10 Walkers graded Cameo by NGC in the proof series (only 7 have been graded Cameo by PCGS). If you look you'll see that, in addition to the rest of the devices being frosted, the sun is also frosted, which is what predominantly separates the true cameos from the rest of the nicely frosted proof Walkers in the series.
I just spent a few days writing about Walkers. I hope that my points are helpful to people who are assembling sets. Classic U.S. Coins for less than $500 each, Part 10: Walking Liberty Half Dollars
That's a very good article, Greg. I'm not sure I agree with JA about the 46 DDR being "subtle" though, as DD's go I think it's pretty strong.
