confederate bonds $1,000

  1. So I am going to an auction later today, I usually just stick with the coinage and silver but these things caught my eye. They look awesome to me for some reason.

Did some research online and searched through ebay and couldn't find any that were complete, most had 70% of the coupons cut off of them.

What would you guys pay for something like this. The auction actually has 2 of these in complete form and a couple that are missing most of the coupons so could be an interesting bid, I think.

They seem to range between $100 to $300 for the most part, with one unusual sale at $805.

Here's a recent sale for $126.50 in Dec 2012 but it does have one coupon missing: http://currency.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=141205&lotNo=34178

    Here's a complete one that sold for $115 in 2008: http://currency.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=38094&lotNo=34122

    Complete for $805 in 2006: http://currency.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=406&lotNo=15429

Two separate bonds for $281 in 2002: http://currency.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=282&lotNo=1246

I seen one sell for $1400 at a local auction house last year and it was missing 2 coupons.

  6. So in other words the price for these are all over the place. I'll see how it goes tonight and post back

CSA Bonds with no missing coupons command a premium. All of the bonds described above are 1864 Equestrians, and are fairly common. They can be found in really nice condition, as they became worthless less than a year from the time they were issued. The $800 sale is an anomaly (auction fever, I suspect).

other factors which bump value are rarity, Trans-Mississippi reissue endorsements, CSA Bondholder Committee seal, Dutch Bondholder Committee seal.
