Hi, nice looking 1887-S obtained through family its been sitting in a box for decades. I don't collect Morgans I am terrible at grading them. Lots of luster, brown tone, sorta crusty. What is a good grade estimate? I may send it in to TPGers...

    Like @wcoins said, hairlines.

Look at Liberty's face, starting under her chin and moving onto her neck.

    Photos thru flips are useless.

I can see the hairline through the flips. I can also say with certainty without the lines it could pull low MS grade (60-61) These photos served to answer the OP's question, which is certainly a details designation. Although undoubtedly images taken through flips, slabs, etc. can make it difficult to get a shot that shows the presence of luster, they are hardly useless.

Thanks! MS60-61 details hairlines is exactly the type of information I was after. Is a good looking coin and based on the type of collection it came from the past cleaning damage is no surprise. This one probably better off raw.

I don't see the big deal about flips photos. Aren't there bigger fish out there for you to fry?
