Everyone at this forum is going to tell you that they are worth what you can get someone to pay for them. That answer, although entirely true, really takes a lot of excitement out of your new coins. So the downer answer is the stock answer. If you look at online guides, it will give you a starting point, if you can afford the trade guides that will be closer. You can also monitor eBay and see what people are willing to pay for them.
Hey toko I must be missing the humor. Let me know when you can add some substance to your answer!! BWJR
Okay, I apologize for my lame attempt at humorously pointing out that theire is no mention of which one of the hundreds of world coins minted that year (including 12 U.S. varieties) is in the slab.
I actually thought it was quite funny....But seriously man, which 1921 coin are you talking about????
1921 50c Alabama Commerative (not the 2x2) The coin I am talking about I bought about 15 years ago. It is a 1921 50c Commerative Alabama PCGS graded in MS65 condition. Also a 1954 Roosevelt Dime Camoe pr69 graded by PCI (233,000 Minted). Thanks, BWJR
I don't have access to any of the really authoritative price guides on U.S. commems, but my 2003 Red Book values it at $2,900 in MS65, and Krause (yes, it does value U.S. coinage) says $2,380 in the 2005 catalog. Sad to say, a PCI PR69 would probably grade out at PR65 or less by one of the big four third party graders. The Red Book says $10, Krause says $12.
2002 red book says 2,400 for 2x2 in field of obverse and 2,275 for no 2x2 in the field of the obverse also the 2005 red book says 2,250 for the alabama with the 2x2 in the field of the obverse and 2,300 for the one with no 2x2 hopefully that gives you the jist of the about area of a price.. although its still 3 red books and only 1 other... satootoko I asume you are using the 2005 coins and prices krause? It seems the coin has gone down in value as for the dime.. the 2005 red book says its only 10 but hey thats 9.90 profit Mach
The last Alabama half, graded MS-65 by PCGS, that sold on sleazeBay, went for $1,550. It was sold by heritagegalleriesandauctioneers. I guess some people don't pay attention to the price guides.
Oh, come on, folks! Don't be coy. Pick a price. Answer the question. ** 1921-P Mercury Dime PCGS MS65 -- (A) $2000 retail. (B) $3000 retail ($4000 if Full Bands) ** 1954 Roosie PCI Proof-69 -- (A) $20 retail. (B) $400 retail (if Cameo). I based this on (A) The Red Book and (B) Coin Values and from there made my own extrapolations. Any other opinions?
