Just got home from work and checked my mail, when I saw what looked like my Jamestown commemorative arrived. Upon closer inspection, I realized that the top of it was torn off, then taped shut, and a sticker that said received damaged, received without contents. I called the mint and explained what had happened, and they told me to fill out the form stating that it arrived damaged and to request a replacement. I told her that the coin was missing and she said that they would replace it. Anyway I 'm going to do just that and hopefully they will send me a new coin. Keeping my fingers crossed.
It was most likley USPS... They will tell you thats how they got it and you can fill out a report... It usually goes no where.... I've even e-mailed them severel times about things like this... Not that I'm supprised, but I got NO Response...
Do you think the mint will honor a replacement? Or should I contact the post office as well? I'm really not sure how to proceed.
I would contact the mint as you have done... Fill out their form and see what happens... I don't think you have much to go on with the USPS as you were not the one that shipped it... The Mint did...
SAVE the box, packing material and be ready to supply them with photos if they want. Most likely that won't happen but it's a good idea to keep it all just in case. Sometimes the post office wants to inspect items that were tampered with, particularly when expensive insurance claims are involved. tradernick
Like said earlier. Save the box, take some pics, don't leave anything out. It's a shame that there are people out there that would do something like that. The world should be like the song "If everyone cared". But sadly, never has and probably never will. Hope all works out for ya! Phoenix
TLF, I am sorry my friend I thought it was Frank I should have read your post better forgive me sorry to here about your lose hope you can get another one. Bruce.
Thanks for all your replies gang. I took some photographs and will proceed to fill out the form and send the whole thing back to the mint. It's just a proof silver Jamestown, but I'm gonna follow it through and see what happens. Thanks for all the input. I'll keep everyone posted on what happens.
Sorry about your coin not making it. I would agree to take pictures and save a copy of everything you send the Mint. Being from Virginia I'm planning on getting that same coin and maybe the gold if I can afford it. Hopefully, I won't have the same problem. Good luck and I do hope that everything works out for you and you finally get your coin.
