went to the cafe at my work and heard if you put a nickel in the machine and refund it, it will give you back a different nickel and so i put a 1998 p nickel in the machine and gave me a 1961 d nickel........ i mean sure its not the best find in the world but im happy p.s i only had a chance to do it once im going to do dimes and nickels tomarow' bob
I think most vending machines are like that. I've switched my change up on the ones at my work before too.
Yea, I could spend hours doing that. Plus it's a good way to get old coins. Does it work with pennies?
yea, i do that occasionaly too. once at a truckstop, i put in a state quarter, hit the coin refund button and it gave me a nice 1966 quarter. also, my brother is a firefighter and my friend's dad is the cheif of the same departmaent so we hang out there sometimes. i had a bunch of change in my pocket and decided to do that. i got some nice looking 1965-1970 dimes and quarters. never tried it with nickels. and no, soda/snack machines don't accept cents. i don't know why. that would be a good way to exchange zinc for copper!
Nice find. The 1961-D is getting harder to find, in circulation, every day. Don't know the exact odds, but your chances of getting one were very slim. I began by collecting from pocket change, and forty years later, it's still my favorite pastime. I always enjoy reading about others' interestng finds, especially older Jefferson nickels.
Have you found any cool coins in change from a Coke machine? I used to get Aussie 10c. & 20c. coins in change from a Coke machine, that is,prior to the change over to the new coins at the end of July last year. Aidan.
