Yah, I won't (shouldn't) make another coin-purchase until November ... so, here I sit, fumbling through my last 10 purchases, wondering which direction to lash-out with my 11th pick?!!

Since there isn't really "too much" goin' on at the moment, maybe you dudes could rate my last 10 picks from worst to best? ... or at least give me an idea of your favourite, or two ... just for giggles ...

The Alexandrian and Phoenicians are terrible. Horrible coins. You should buy better things. Don't ever buy another Alexandrian or Phoenician.

    :D

Of course I'm kidding. Shh, don't tell Steve, maybe we can trick him into not bidding on *my* coins!

That's a tough call, Steve - so many super coins there. If had to pick some favorites, I would go with the fractional silvers, but only because I've taken more interest in those lately. They are all wonderful additions.

For the record => my awesome dude sold me #4, #5 and #6 for a total of $60 total (delivered) ... so perhaps I should have grouped them together as "one vote"

... the guy is soooo fricken awesome (Batman rocks!!)

It's a tough call, Steve-O. Gotta go with the A-Pi/FashionRunway drachm but the Eion is super too. And the Sidon. And the Pompey/Skylla.

The Alexandrian drachm, no contest. Then others are all easily replaceable - I could find you new ones in two or three month . Might be years before you find that drachm variety again.

#7, #10 and #1 lead the pack for me. Pius drachms of ANY mythological type are collectible in aG condition. As worn coins go, this one is very nice and has the date. I'd much rather have it than a rough VF. Test Ardatirion's theory on how long it takes you to see another. He, obviously, has a better chance of seeing any expensive coin than we do but I think he was being conservative with 'might be years'. Might be decades, too. It depends on who dies or gets bored.

Wow, thank you very much for the fantastic efforts so far (I really appreciate your opinions) ...

Z-bro => thanks for sorting the whole bunch (bonus-points for being extra-awesome)

... once everybody has had a chance to give their valuable opinions, I will try to tally-up the rankings and do a quick summary ...

Wow, thanks again, my wonderful coin-friends!

    Cheers

considering ards post..i guess I would go with the drachm was well. I didn't know it was that rare.

but I really like "geese in love" and the other archaics.

    pomepy is cool as well.

    and the phonecians.

as a group, they get 10 beavers.

They're all pretty bad, but I will gladly take all of them off your hand. :D

    j.k of course.

Personally I like the Eion double geese the best, followed by the Caria Mylasa and then the Phoenicia Byblos. All this based on design though, I'm too much of a noob to know which is more rare than others.

Hey, thanks for your help, gang ... I always find it interesting & fun to get feedback on my new additions ...

... yah, I guess I do care about what others think about my coins ... and since I don't really show-off my coins in this mining town, you guys are pretty much my only coin-viewers ... for obvious reasons, I really don't want the whole town to know that I collect rare coins, so like I said => I don't often present them to my local gang (kind of a sad story, eh?) ...

=> so far, the actual over-all winner is a bit difficult to determine, but a Top-3 has definitely emerged from the pack (interestingly, they are also the 3 most expensive coins of my new 10 additions):

    MACEDON, Eion, AR Tritartemorion

    Circa 460-400 BC
    Diameter: 10 mm
    Weight: 0.37 grams
Obverse: Two geese standing right; ivy leaf and H to left
    Reverse: Quadripartite incuse square

    Macedon Eion Double Geese.jpg

    ANTONINUS PIUS, Alexandria, AE Drachm
    138-161 AD
    Egypt, Alexandria, year 8, (144-145AD)
    Diameter: 33mm
    Weight: 23.15 grams
Obverse: Laureate bust of Antoninus Pius facing right
Reverse: Serapis wearing the modius between the Dioscuri, LH in exergue
    Reference: Reference: Dattari 1109

    anton serapis.jpg

Sextus Pompey, Son of Pompey the Great,
    AR Denarius (Sicily, Messana)

    42-40 BC
    Diameter: 18 mm
    Weight: 3.5 grams
Obverse: MAG PIVS IMP ITER, galley adorned with aquila, sceptre and trident before the Pharos (Lighthouse) of Messana, decorated with a statue of Neptune
Reverse: PRÆF CLAS ET ORÆ MARIT EX S C, the monster Scylla, her torso of dogs and fishes, wielding a rudder as a club

    Sextus Pompey.jpg

=> please keep your opinions coming (thanks)

=> the good ol' Ram coins did manage to get a couple of votes each, but didn't emerge out of the quagmire to reach the podium ...

Oh, and yes, you seemed to be a bit out of control yesterday (perhaps Mrs Bing should tighten-up the leash a tad?)

    ;)

I hope that you have a nice Canadian Thanksgiving Sunday, my friend ...

=> this afternoon, my brother-in-law is hosting the big turkey feast (that's ideal) ... I have been tasked with bringing a ham, which will be easy-peezy (I'll glaze it with cherry sauce and decorate it with pineapple slices) ... it's usually a total winner

Yummy. I'll be right there. Don't start without me. And, yes, the Obol and Diobol are still my favorites. BTW, do you have any aspirin?
