I found this in the coin return slot while dumping change. Can anyone identify this coin?
    Thanks

I'm pretty sure it's Taiwan but otherwise yes, it's a common modern.

Reading from right to left, first four characters say Republic of China ( Taiwan ) and next four says year seventy seven and with the portrait of General Chiang Kai-shek. I'm thinking it's from 1977.

77 is actually 1988. It's 77 years since the founding of the Republic of China. Japanese coins use a similar dating system where it is the year of the emperor's reign.
