That's right ... we got ourselves a pair of geese (ummm, I think they mate for life?) => well, 2500 years later and these two geese are still flocking together!! Yah, I love this cool new coin ... to me, it looks a bit like it's two love-birds (awww, how cute) MACEDON, Eion, AR Obol (Tritartemorion?) Circa 460-400 BC Diameter: 10 mm Weight: 0.37 grams Obverse: Two geese standing right; ivy leaf and H to left Reverse: Quadripartite incuse square Reference: SNG ANS –; SNG Copenhagen 181 Other: toned, typical porosity
I love it! Two geese and a heart-shaped leaf... aww. You can justify the purchase to your wife by saying "But honey, I only bought it because it reminds me of us." Admit it, you thought of that already
Wow, fantastic thinking, Coin-Princess (I may have to use that line!!) ... Oh, and yes, I do have the other super-cool coin from Eion ... => yup, it's the good ol' Goose & Lizard!! "Honk-onk-onk" .... "Lizard-sound, lizard-sound, lizard-sound" Macedon, Eion, AR Trihemiobol 500-400 BC Diameter: 12.41 mm (max) Weight: 0.87 grams Obverse: Goose standing right, looking back, lizard left above, H below Reverse: quadripartite incuse square
I really like these cute little Eion honkers. Of your two, I prefer the one with the love geese. Great art work on a tiny coin!
Thanks gang ... Yah, Z-bro => that new two geese addition is far more rare (rarer?) than the traditional goose & lizard variety!! (I love the new love-birds!!) ... but they're both cool coins ... => oh, and "please" post any Eion coins and/or any coins with a goose(s) on 'em!!
Hey, I love that coin, Steve! Nice pick-up. I struck out at CNG today, but to be fair, I was being a cheapskate: trying to win coins by $10 over opening bid, lol. That's not how you win auctions.
I'll throw in a pigeon. Roman Empire, Anonymous, Domitian to Antoninus Pius AE Quadrans, 3.25g, Rome mint: AD 81-161 Obv.: Diademed and draped bust of Venus right. Rev.: Dove standing right, S-C. Reference: RIC II 24 (p. 218) Notes: Countermark "AU" in field above dove, possibly from a university collection.
=> sometimes it pays off (I have actually won a few coins by merely jumping-on the opening-bid) ... ... but today, I knew that I was in for a bit of a dog-fight (3.2 x estimate) ... Oh well, JA => maybe you'll get 'em next-time, my cheap-arse friend?!! Cheers brother (I'm about to go out for dinner, so I'll see what you wrote when I return) ... you rock, my friend!!
Huh? ... not much going-on tonight, eh? => well, I'm back from my work-dinner (Chinese food ... yah, it wasn't bad) That's a mighty fine pigeon/dove coin you've got there ... thanks for posting
They also come with A (below) or theta in place of the H but I do not know the meaning. I understand the more globular ones are earlier. I like your 2 goose model.
Thanks for the coin compliments, fellas ... => Doug, thanks for posting your winners, plus thanks for adding a couple of clues to the ol' "H" thingy (must be some sort of control-mark or mint mark?)
