Please listen to the sounds in this video. 1st is clad. 2nd is 40% half that "sounds right". 3rd is a 1967 Kennedy half, but... Sounds... Weird?
Its a magicians coin, flip it and it will sound dead. It might be rotated etc. See this Here is a thread with more information http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=147641
It weighs 114g, just like a "normal" 40% coin. It has a heads and a tails. The rim looks like you would expect on a 40%'er....
114g?! I know you mean 11.4g.....well the best I can tell you is to flip them with your hand/fingers and listen. That sounds like a magicians coin to me. 11.5g is the target for a 40% and 11.34g is the clad weight. Yours is right in there. Is the rotation correct, 180 degrees etc? You have to inspect the edges real good. However - I have never heard of a silver one yet..
Good catch on the weight. I hate that my digital scale has an extremely small decimal point! Rotation is correct. Could it just be coated with something?
Weight can be off a bit, yours is close enough. Rotation good is a good thing.. Coated? Well if you flip it as you would a coin you should 'hear' the silver. When you dropped it on the video I was 99% sure it was a magicians coin as it has NO ring at all....
The harmonic resonance is off, which clearly means its a voodoo coin with a hex on it. Better get rid of it immediately. Bad coin! Bad! Sorry, I realize my post is not at all helpful.
There is a simple explanation that would explain the sound. The 40% coins are essentially clad coins and if the bonding process was not completely perfect, the sound would not be right.
I really does. Kind of freaks me out. Of all the proposed solutions presented thus far, that would make the most sense. I'm no expert, but I can't see any seams, and the weight is correct. Maybe I'll take it to my LCS to get their opinion. I'll hang onto it for the next time I'm at a coin show.
