This occurred on a 1979 penny. Just wondering how common these errors are and if it matters that so many words are almost unreadable. Thanks
This is very common with these cents for that area, but I am thinking it is more a worn die then just grease filled die, however grease filled die are common as well.
Hey just a thought for your pics, click full image. Welcome to the site!!!!!!! It is totally a fun hobby and the guys/gals here are a great!!!
A grease-filled die is one of the most common errors you will find, particularly for Lincoln cents. Personally, I wouldn't pay a premium for any of them, but there are plenty of bidiots who would. Chris
Thanks, yeah it is a fun hobby I just recently got back into it, I collected when I was a kid. I've been searching rolls for a few weeks now and have already made several exciting finds.. 1970s penny 2 wheat pennies off center struck pennies , and a a Wisconsin die crack error, my wife thinks I'm crazy... Lol
Most error coins aren't worth very much. Die cracks are pretty common, too, because of the tons and tons of pressure that is required to strike the planchets. One of the most noteworthy die breaks is the 1888-O "Scarface" Morgan dollar. In most instances, your wife is probably right, but if just one occasion arises where you find a relatively valuable coin while checking your pocket change, don't be surprised if your wife doesn't start rummaging through your pants pockets at night. Chris
My wife actually thinks it good for me as I can't do all the crazy physical stuff I used to do. Hahaaa maybe its therapeutic. Although a lot of errors may not be worth much, I just am addictited to trying to find them. I have two coins posted on "Cuds on Coins" web site which I am proud to have found and they wouldn't be up there if it weren't for the guys here helping me!!!! I do wonder at times if they may be more valuable since they are listed, but I have not ever sold one. I just want to rack up a bunch, catalog them and give them to my kids. If one day I find a hot valuable one, I might consider selling it for the kids I am in the hunt!!!!
