    Hello...

I purchased a few Morgan Silver Dollars Graded with VAM in the description, what exactly does VAM mean? I looked at the coins closely but can't figure out what is different about them....

    Thank You...

VAM is an acronym for Leroy Van Allen & A. George Mallis, the authors of the Comprehensive Catalog and Encyclopedia of Morgan & Peace Dollars. They are credited with developing the classification system of varieties for Morgan and Peace dollars.

You can go to the VAMWorld site and check the listings for each variety by date and mintmark.

Also note that not every VAM is attributed by pcgs or ngc.

The only grading service that will attribute all VAM's is ANACS.

I believe it's when a thread has a "best answer" marked.
