Look im really sorry, for upsetting and making people rather annoyed, i had been looking on the net for information about my coin, and i came across an article about another silver colored coin, which was like mine, but mine has a tiny little hole in it, and i just thought i would come to a coin forum and see what others thought of it,
and also what i have read today, has also given me a few ideas on what to do now, so i thank you for giving me some advice, and ill keep you informed on what it is, that's if anyone will be interested in knowing about it..

I think most of us would like to know the results of your investigation.

Please understand that many people come on these forums thinking they found a rare item worth a lot of money. Some are absolutely convinced. It's quite amusing at times, so many of the regulars here post sarcastic remarks when seeing yet another post about a rare find.

If you're interested in the hobby, stick around. It's a great place to learn. At least let us know what you find out about the coin you posted.

I'm in agreement that the coin was drilled. There was a good explanation as well about the coin content and why it's likely not a silver coin. Anyway, good luck to you in your endeavor.

This was not the wisest of response's to give for the "obvious" and is what set the stage for some snickering.

ok well maybe i asked for it then, just me being abit naive aswell, well the coin was plated, and im guessing thats why it had a hole in it, cos someone else must of thought it was a little money maker, and they got told the same as me, so now i know that its all good, i was not bothered whether it was rare or fake it is just a nice unusual gift to be given, also in regards to the coin hobby thing, i may well pop in now and again if i find or get given anymore coins. .. thanks for advice and input ;) .

Well it may only be worth a penny, but it now has a story and I bet you keep it. If this happens a few more times, you will be a coin collector.

We all started somewhere. My start was when I got a silver dime in the black eye peas that my grandmother served on New Years. I'm not sure if any other families did this, but it was meant to say that you would have a prosperous year. That 1943 still resides in my dansco.

Actually, silver has a long standing history associated with relative wealth, good health and prosperity.

The English did something similar, putting a trinket or such in the pudding. If you found it (and didn't crack your teeth doing so) it portended a prosperous year......

The mint DID make a small number of such coins in sterling silver, but they only did so in 1996 and 2000. They didn't show the obverse of the second coin so we don't know what year it is. They did not make silver pennies (except Maundy pennies which are of a different design) in 1979. That coin is holed and plated. As for the second coin, what does it weigh? If it is silver it should be at least 4 grams.
