    hamman88 Spare some change, sir?

I see a lot of certified coin for sale that really are just worthless common coins. I'm thinking about mabe getting some of my coins certified ans I was wondering, what is a good rule of thumb as minimum coin value before you get it slabbed? Also would you reccomend anacs or ngc and why?

Well it really depends on the individual. Some people use $100.00 as the minimum standard for getting coins slabbed. Some people only get key date coins slabbed to ensure authenticity. Some people have uncirculated coins slabbed to protect them (although generic CoinWorld holders or round air tight holders will do this).

If there is a large jump in price from one grade to the next (for example MS-64 to MS-65) and your coin is the higher grade, a slabbing a coin will be a good financial decision.

I personally have TPGs slab key dates coins, high grade Morgans, high grade 19th century type coins, and any coin with large jumps in price by grade. At present time, I would use NGC, as I feel ANACS is a step below where they once were. From a financial perspective, NGC coins generally bring more money in the marketplace compared with ANACS coins.

Hopefully others will provide some feedback as well.

I would use NGC for the same reason shortgapbob pointed out. Even commoner dates fetch a premium when they are certified.

pcgs is also recommended as they are well respected...i have never personally submitted a coin to be slabbed. if you do a thread search on this forum topic, you will find more info regarding this subject...good luck!
