I have been noticing more and more beautiful coins coming to market in old Anacs slabs. Does it have to do with the era of when these coins were slabbed? Your thoughts?
Years ago, when I was turned off by the widely held misconception that all PCGS and NGC coins were necessarily worth more than the ANACS coins of the same grade, I pulled mine back, and still have a fair number of these nice coins in the bank. I'm certain I'm not alone.
They were, at least as far as I could tell. While PCGS and NGC were started by "heavy hitters" of the industry, Anacs was always the third service talked about if someone was open minded to discuss a third. In the mid-90's is when a lot of collectors got into the mindset that only two were worthy of collecting, (and some are still hung up only PCGS is worth their time). That is my recollection, though of course I never collected plastic.
Nicely toned. Im not familar with "anacs toning". I have seen all different toning patterns so i'm not aware of a specific pattern.
Paper can, coupled with the correct environment, but it was a small amount in their slabs. Maybe their slabs were less air tight than others, or just less messed with coins?
