Right, but what is your other job? You assume that everyone has one job or career and that just is not true; has not been for almost 20 years, but certainly not since the current recession, which is in its tenth year. I chose "techy" because usually, I am a technical writer. But unable to even apply for work without a degree, I went back to school in 2005, gathered all my transfer credits, and completed degrees in criminology. I often work as a security guard. Moreover, my last technical writing assignment was for the Texas Department of Public Safety. So, I need two check boxes... And... I write for the numismatic trades. I write for free for places like this because I support the hobby. But if you see me in print, I got paid. Three boxes...
I'm a self employed electrician / licensed contractor. I was a USMC reserve artillery gunner, have a BA in English literature and am thinking of what to do next.
=> I've worked at this same minesite during the past 23 years (three different headframes, but all for the same firm) ... but yes, I agree with you that the majority of the population seem to jump from one company to another rather than being "lifers" like the previous generations ... ummm, 30 years ago I worked as a landscaper (6 year stint ...... good times ... I was in great shape and I didn't have a care in the world!!)
I picked a) but would just as easily fit in g). I am a researcher at the largest group practice medical clinic in the world, but my degrees are in mathematics (undergrad) and statistics (graduate).
I've helped someone sell coins before and you're absolutely right. I definitely felt emotionally invested and found it hard to sell some of them. I hope I never get to the point where I have to sell any of mine. Trading them is much more enjoyable. I've always daydreamed of working in a bank or coin place, but my numismatic knowledge is so narrow that I wouldn't be much help. I'll have to keep you in mind the next time my wife gives me a coin budget; you could possibly point me in the right direction or at least teach me a little bit about deciphering those magazines.
I'm told it's unusual to work for the same company for that long these days. Don't know why, I've been with the same company for 35 years. Advertising.
Curious jlogan? ... why did you divert that "age-thread" to the coin-chat forum, rather than keeping it in this awesome forum?
Kind of hard for me to pick one. I am a student with two jobs. One in retail and one as a substitute assistant teacher. Unfortunately the student part unbalances the paycheck I get from both jobs.
Some of us need care, and we're appreciative of your efforts, as young people often inform us "you need help!!" LOL
I'm a chemist. I went to school for Chemistry and Math. I tell you if that go go juice is 87 or 93 or weather your plane will fall out of the sky. I don't always blow things up, but when I do it's epic.
Many of you know I am retired Army. Thirty-three years active duty from 1968 to 2001. Three combat tours. Since retirement I have been a defense contractor mostly working through the Defense Attache Offices around the globe. I like blowing things up as well (but in a different context).
