    Hello all,

I just found this coin in an old box and it is really big and heavy.

Sorry for the bad photos. (Camera phone)

    Front side-

Has the date 1782 on the left side of a pyramid and on the right says 1882.

    Bottom of the pyramid says M D C C L X X V I and under that says novus ordo seclorum.

Here is a picture of the front:

Next to a small coin (a bit bigger than a quater.)

Here is a picture of the back:

It has an eagle with a shield in the center of it and its claws are holding leafs/branch and what looks to be arrows its mouth is holding a flag that says E plurieus unum with stars and clouds above its head

Does any one know what this coin is and what its value might be?

    Thanks you so much,

    Steve

Steve, this looks like one of those tokens that were issued by the Freemasons.

Coinreader, there isn't a catalogue of these as such as I am aware of.I can guess that the value of these would be a speculative one.

It is not a coin, it is a medal. The pyramid is known as the American Pyramid and was designed by Charles Thompson - the man who designed the Great Seal of the United States. The latin phrase, novus ordo seclorum, literally translated means, a new order of the ages. But Thompson's intention was for it to mean - the beginning of the new American Era.

The two dates on the medal indicate it was issued to celebrate the centennial of the Great Seal. Now I have no idea if the medal is an original or a restike nor do I have any idea of value. Only an expert in medals could tell you.

I have a similar coin and wonder if you found anything about its worth.

As previously posted, it is not a medallion, not a coin, and only a specialist in that category of medals could even guess at value. Numismatically, figure it's worth its weight in whatever metal it is cast or struck in.
