What do you all think about the future prices of the 2006 silver eagle anniversary sets? On ebay it looks like the prices are holding steady within $10-$15 of $300 in either direction. Is this a good time to get rid of any extras or should I hold on to the sets a little longer? I guess I am trying to find out if you think the prices have peaked for the short term?

its very difficult to predict future prices like stocks they can go either way. if people lose interest you may see a price fall otherwise they may go higher once the APE set is released and people get their memories and desires refreshed. Set a benchmark that you are comfortable with and then go with it

yeah, anything could happen... but on the bright side, this set contains the only reverse proof silver coin ever made by the US mint, so with that coin in it, i guess the set should not go down too much in the future, unless they make a new reverse proof. If they do, I'd watch very carefully! For instance I noticed the price of a common 1996 ASE unc seems to have dropped about $10 on averege due to the fact that its not the rarest ASE anymore (with the 2006 W ASE out)...

hold it, it will be worth more in the future (that being said I am not buying more).

One auction for an opened 20th Anniversary set closed at $325 on ebay two days, setting a new record. Looking over today's completed auctions, they seem to be going steady around $300.

Although I have often heard how the reverse proof and the W-Unc. have extremely low mintages, they don't. The average mintage for a collectors' edition (read: Proof) ASE is around 500,000, the reverse proof mintage is 250,000, and the W-Unc. mintage is around 480,000. Yes - the W-Unc. has the lowest mintage for an uncirculated ASE, BUT, unlike other years, it is a numismatic collectible, not a bullion coin. IMO the Reverse proof is the real rarity in the 20th anniversary set, not the W-Unc. Having said all that, I do own a few sets, so hopefully they will be worth $500 soon.

Edited to say the $325 dollar record I am referring to is for an opened, raw set. For sales of two or more sets, the average price per set is a bit higher than for single sets.

Is that record me o.o? Well, mine was graded MS/PF 69 by NGC and sold for $325....

I have kept track of prices for the last one month on eBay, mainly because I want to buy stuff and was waiting for a lull in prices... the numbers below are averages for a day (both auctions and BIN) for an opened, ungraded set and are good representations of prices for dates nearby...
    2006 W ASE -$58 (Jan 25th) $80 (13th Feb) back down to about $76 (23rd Feb)
    2006 Silver Set - $248 (Jan 25th) to $276 (13th Feb) and $292 (23rd Feb)
