Well my BEA collection is growing by leaps & bounds LOL gone from 4 coins to 8 not sure if I can cope LOL 1942 5c 1937 50c/1/2 shilling 1941 1 shilling 1942 1 shilling De Orc :kewl:
De Orc, Really nice coins. Coins with holes are always a bit strange to me which makes them that much more fun to collect. My African continent coin collection grew from 2 SA coins to include 7 from Gambia in Western Africa. I love the croc's as they remind me of the gators from Florida. Living there for 15 years gave me a real appreciation for the animal. Thanks for sharing :thumb: Darryl
BTW: As a Leo, I also have to say I love those lions. I will have to add those coins to my want list. Thanks again.
Some nice coins there :thumb: it is amazing just what you can collect on coins LOL good luck with expanding the collection. De Orc :kewl:
LOL thanks guy's but less of the 'Old' im only 50 LOL, hoping to pick up a few more East & West Africa before to long :smile De Orc :kewl:
It is very cool to see some of these coins that you would not normally come across. I'm in my 40's and until very recently I had never held a coin from the African continent. I also just picked up my first coin from Australia - and it has an Anteater on it. It's very neat. I need to work on getting coins from every modern country. I'm well on my way as I have most of western and central Europe covered. If one country ever takes over the world, I would like to think I will have some spending money. :smile Best Regards Darryl
Darryl,Gambian coins are notoriously difficult to find, especially the decimal coins. The Gambian 1 Dalasi crocodile design was used on the old 4 Shillings (4/-) coin. Not surprisingly, the Gambian 1966 1 Penny (1d.) is THE commonest Gambian coin that turns up.The 8/- coin is very hard to find. Steve, the East African coin series is a challenge to collect. The Queen Elizabeth II 50c. coins of 1954-56 includes the KHN mintmark errors, which do occasionally turn up.I do have a 1956 KHN 50c. coin, which shows a trace of the 'H' between the 'K' & the 'N'.The 1920 coins almost never turn up.I was lucky to have managed to get the 25c. & 1920H 1 Florin coins. The silver 50c. & 1/- coins often have planchet faults. The 1921 10c. is a scarce coin. The 1956 10c. is also a very hard one to get.Fortunately,I have got both of these. Aidan.
Thanks Aidan, I have the #54 coin but not the #8 or #14. It looks like I only need 13 coins to complete the set for that country. Darryl
I have had both of these since the 1960's. One of the few coins which got out before he abdicated. Almost uncirculated condition.
Thanks for the advise Aidan :thumb: Darryl I am enclosing a 1 Dalasi for you with the ships it looks to be in better condition than the one you have. De Orc
willieboyd2 I like that 48 1/- the condition is superb, thanks for adding them to this thread :thumb: De Orc :kewl:
Darryl & Steve,I have got all of the Gambian pre-decimal coins, except for the 3d. & 2/- coins.I have most of the 1 Butut,5 Bututs,& 1 Dalasi coins that has the portrait of Sir Dawda K. Jawara, the 1st President of Gambia (1970-94).Anything else,I've not yet managed to get. The 1936 King Edward VIII East African 5c. & 10c. coins are actually quite common,as is the King Edward VIII Fijian & New Guinea 1d. coins. Some of the British West African King Edward VIII coins are actually quite scarce. Aidan.
