I ran across this one yesterday, a 1949-S wheatie with a tilted S. Checked it against the others that I have and against the coppercoins.com website and see some degree of mint mark tilting but not nearly as pronounced. Thought it was interesting enough to show here.
It is a little tilted. Whenever I see something like that, I try to figure out is it's hiding anything. I know the '46 has an S over D variety, but I don't know that the '49 does. Doesn't appear to me, anyway--from these pics--that this is anything other than a cockeyed stamping. I guess when they asked this guy on his employment application whether he drank on the job, and he answered no more than usual, that should have been a sign. I mean, how hard can that be, stamping a mint mark on a coin?
