I have a 1904-o Morgan, on the reverse just below the "G" in God is what appears to be a mark which could have been made by something on the die. It kind of looks like the field was peeled away. In the "Encyclopedia" (fourth edition) on page137 you see a 1880-s struck through grease. Well it resembles this but is in the field only below the "G". And parts of the motto appear to be doubled and encrusted around the letters. So anyone else see anything like this? Don
more like this I hope these pics come up. But here is what the doubling looks like and the field where it is missing.
One of the boyz at a major TPG told me that there are many legit Morgan die varieties that are not in the VAM Encyclopedia. He said they have a much larger tome for attribution. Which didn't make a lot of sense to me, because putting an attribution number on the slab would have to map back to a VAM number in the Encyclopedia, wouldn't it ? Maybe the list of VAM numbers is the same, they just need a larger book to show more photos / more detail than the VAM book does. I dunno...
My pictures are to big and I need to re-work them so as to show the errors and yet not be over 100kb.
I think I see what you mean, but a VAM guy I am not. CT member nesvt is the guy you want - hopefully he will see your post and reply.
