..with all the hoopla about the President dollars? It may be smart to pick up a roll or two from the mint they maybe low mintage, especially when you consider that the roll coins are distinct and different from the mint set coins and will be collected as such in the future.
I don't think they are going to be low mintage because my understanding is the legislation currently in place requires 1/3 of the $1 coins produced to be Sacs. Since it sounds like they are going to make a ton of Presidential Dollars...it would therefore be fare to assume a ton of Sacs will be made as well. But, than again, I could be wrong.
Not a bad idea if you got the extra cash laying around to snatch up a few rolls and put away... I might grab some later this year...
No, in fact this year will have the second largest mintage since the beginning of the Sacagawea series. According to the legislation that authorized the Presidential dollars, 1 out of every 3 dollar coins minted must be a Sac. Total mintage for 2007 Pres. dollars is expected to be around 1.2 billion, therefore approximately 600 million Sacs. will be minted in 2007.
pretty weird that they put that in there, they will NEVER sell all of those. I guess I was wrong, these will be like those SBA's that they have been offering for sale year after year.
1 out of every 3 would make it how many million ? But I was talking to someone at the Fed Reserve, who told me they did not think there would be a need for many Sa'sc because they have so many Sac's and SBA's in the vaults. remember the Fed has to order them from the mint and if the Fed does not need many they will not order. It doesn't matter how many are needed - they will be minted because it is the law. We'll be swimming in dollar coins.
That is what Congress has decided,so the U.S. Mints must keep to the terms of their mandate, otherwise, they're in the cart. Aidan.
Skylark, the answer is 'No'.For every 2,000,000 of the Presidential Dollars,1,000,000 of the Sacagawea ones MUST be struck & issued at face value - US$1. Aidan.
I can not find the law that says they are going to make all the Sacagawea dollars. but did find this very interesting reading from congress about the dollars link http://financialservices.house.gov/media/pdf/hr10939.pdf
Philly Dog,that document clearly states that the Sacagawea $1 will continue to be struck during the period of the Presidential $1 programme,& that the Sacagawea $1 will continue to be struck after the end of the Presidential $1 series ends. I like the idea of 4 commemorative 1c. coins being put into circulation in 2009.From 2010,the Lincoln 1c. will more than likely have its design changed to a design honouring President Lincoln's contribution to preserving America as a united country,as opposed to the current Lincoln Memorial reverse design. Aidan.
Specifically: I would like anyone who believes Sec. (1) to contact me immediately about a bridge I have for sale (cheap) in Reuben's home town!
