I was wondering if anybody would be able to tell me if this coin is real. What grade it looks like and if it is a strong D or a weak D. I hope you can tell from the pictures as its the best I can get. Thanks
We are going to need the photos alot larger and alot clearer than that---try to scan them at a high DPI....if that doesn't work then try more photos. Speedy
i have a special thing on my computer that magnifies things....from what i can tell it looks like a strong d
Man, I LOVE those Indian gold... It's impossible to tell from the photos, but it looks cleaned. A LOT of Indian gold is. These are tough enough to grade when holding them in hand - I can't hazard a guess with small photos. As you probably know, the 1911-D is THE key of the Indian $2.50 series; all other issues are about the same. A collection of Indian $2.50 will be judged by the quality of the 1911-D. In some collections, the 11-D is worth as much as all the others combined. I suppose there may be some fake mint marks running around.
A bigger picture is necessary to judge the coin. However, $2.5 Indian gold has commonly been counterfeited over time. The 1911-D, being the key date, should be examined very carefully before purchased, as many counterfeits exist for the date.
Right on. Greysheet values say a lot... 1911-P MS60 $250 1911-D MS60 $9,600 The temptation to fake a mintmark is great.
