Be ecstatic - it's a fake. Here's 5 die differences -- on a real dollar, the first S in States almost touches the wing; the O and the F in OF are way too far apart; the I of In touches the wing; the N and E of ONE are way too far apart; the F of OF is too far from the wing. Now you know a few reverse details to watch for. Keep trying.
It's hard to argue with all those die differences. Somebody with a known-good 1882, let's post images side-by-side. Regardless, I'm not changing my mind.

I call 'em like I see 'em. I do wish I had a VAM book. Think I'll stick to my original opinion after the side-by-side. And the color, although that may be due to the photograph. A couple more things - lack of detail in the tails of the feathers, and lack of detail in the portion of the eagle's wings next to its body. And, the total lack of marks or abrasions or digs in the OP's coin's fields. Enuff.
You're welcome to your opinion, sir, but this does not make it fact. Your "differences" can most easily be explained away by the photo quality and angle of imaging. Perhaps the OP could be so kind as to remove the coin from the flip and rephotograph without the angle.
Interesting The only fake with more silver than the real one. Ditto Doug & I agree-- again! Obviously ditto yup
Doug, if everyone ignores his threads, sooner or later he will have to read some of those books if he has the right ones. Chris
