..it is actually nicer than the pic shows.... zane i have a larger orig pic which i can send you..the surfaces appear attractive, i use the high lumen energy saver bulbs (125 watt) for light source and a 10x w/ led to examine coin as well ....know that they aren't high grade, but i look thru hundreds of coins before i will find one...sometimes 1000 after i find one with eye appeal, then it goes thru the strike exam, ect...i put a lot of time in to buy just one common date. i really dig thru them so i can find the best coin for my money...sometimes i get a good buy...other times, i have to let the coin go as the price gets more than i am willing to pay..i would like to be able to go and buy 5 ms63 or so commons and just add them in to my set, but i can't do it. even on these, i will reference the individual coins and the prices thru past auctions(sometimes going to 1993) and compare coins vs price. it is time consuming but actually makes the hunt that much more fun....plus, you learn a lot going thru all the old coins..it also helps you find quality for the grade.... good grief...a lot of work to spend on a $35 coin! thanks for the comments....steve
my personal feeling is that this could be a 64...it is in an old holder and there are still coins out there which can be considered "undergraded" by current standards. i just thought it was nice enough to purchase for my set, especially at the price.
Steve, no need to send me a larger picture. I suspect ANACS simply undergraded this one (in my opinion), as do all TPG's from time to time. Had I ran across this one in a 63 holder, and it was priced even at a 64 (I think it is a just miss for a 5), I think I would have bought it. Nice pick up and good eye!
Nice Coin !! I love Morgans AU 50 = slight trace of wear on the bust shoulder and hair left of forehead, Eagle's feathers all plain but with a slight trace of wear on breast and wing tip's MS 60 = No trace of wear. Full mint luster present, but may be noticeably marred by scuff marks or bag abrasions. MS 63 = No trace of wear. Full mint luster, few noticeable surface marks. I would have to say ....AU 58 or 59 only because of the hair left of forehead and eagle's breast
But then you have to remember that it is an "O" mint Coin---and the O mint was known for a weak strike so that is why the detail isn't there....the coin is still MS and a nice one at that. Speedy
I've got to say for a 63 that looks better than a couple of 65's that I have...weak strike or not that thing is undergraded.
Nice Pickup!! That coin is definitely undergraded by today's standards. I feel that the coin is definitely an upper end 64, and I have seen worse coins in 65 holders.
