Hello to all once again....I've come across a 1958 Lincoln Cent that looks like it's been cleaned but no scratches....any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
Lots of luster present, so I'd certainly call it "BU", but it certainly could have been cleaned at some point. Plenty of cleaners won't leave hairline scratches; dips like MS-70 and tarn-x, etc. But they will distort color, which I can't really tell from the pictures if that's the case.
Please don't hold the coins like that. I cringe when I see this. Here's why: your fingers have special oil properties that damage a coin upon contact. Hold it by the edges, and carefully. This is the proper method.
Thanks to all! I did not know the oils in our hands can damage coins....thanks for letting me know this! This shiny find is going to my local coin shop tomorrow to be placed in a sleeve!
@Danielle Skasko Are you only searching for pennies? only errors? perhaps you should look into buying some books that provide relevant information. That's what I've done and it definitely helps. I and many others started with ye olde Red book a guide to us coinage.
I was going to say the same thing. One of my favorite shows, "Pawn Stars" does this and I always think they should know better.
I actually found this in a tub of change that the Dr I work for just have me because he knows how much I love coin hunting there's sooooo much change and very overwhelming....but it's all worth it!
Hi, It really does not seemed to be cleaned, possible chemical stain is what it appears to be, but not seeing in person that's just my observation.
