Does anyone know anything about the Japanese One Yen Coin? I picked this one up yesterday and indemnified it as an 1883,I think! I know there are a lot of counterfeits but this one matched the pic of an authenic 1883.it needs cleaning, excuse me Conservation. Am I wrong about the date and authenticity?
I recommend that you (1) check the weight, (2) check if it is attracted to a magnet, and (3) don't attempt any cleaning. Here is one I got in 2009: I believe your top photo should be rotated 180 degrees.
Japan, Y#A25.2 YEN, Silver, Ruler: Mutsuhito (Meiji) Yr.16 (1883) mintage- 3,636,678 grade/value F-$65.00 VF-$125.00 XF-$225.00 UNC-$850.00 Krause value may differ from real market values. not sure what your coins grades is ? if I had to guess... VF ? not sure if you coin is authentic ? I see some damage on the rim... not sure how much that will affect the value ? Do NOT clean it. you'll kill half the value if you do.
Thanks but yes I do all the tests, magnet, weight, thickness, circumference ,etc and it all checks out but I could not read all the writing. I compared it to an 1883 and it was the same and no I will not do any cleaning I will probably send it to ANACS just for the conservation not so much for the grade but I won't fuss about their grade and yes it does have a very small rim find! Thanks Guys!
Here is an 1894 Straits Settlement 50 cent coin that I picked up and sent to PCGS for grading and authentication it came back an XF45 but the photos they made make it look like a F-12 they are terrible. I am sending it with the Yen to ANACS for conservation and grading.
Yes, it is 1914. That is the date on the slab. (It was in the slab when I bought the coin). The majority of my World coins are raw.
