Driving to the UPS store this morning, I was in a neighborhood with a narrow road on trash day (= trash cans too far out into the street) with a very inattentive oncoming driver who was crossing the middle. Guess I won't be buying that 1916 D Merc that @LostDutchman has for sale any time soon :banghead:

That is so sad, is there anything you can do to get your money back, since it wasn't your fault?

Doubt it...dude had no clue what he had caused...talk about scaring the you know what outta me...slammed the window sounded like a gun shot...then followed by me shouting a few choice words. This will be a $400-$600 repair. I think my deductible is $500

Seeing that the window is the passenger side window I say you were as inattentive
as the other driver as you were the one that hit something.

Insurance ? I just replaced my drivers window on my F150 , it was only $190

I mean, its not like I was really going to spend the money right now on that hole, but because I do have the medical condition known as "coins on the brain", that is how I think in terms of the money that will be spent to fix the window...oh well.

I moved over as far right as I could to avoid being hit by the oncoming driver...today just happened to be the day were trash hoppers were at the side of the road...one happened to be right there when I swerved..

The way I understand it, if you would have let him hit you, you would have a case against him, but you decided to drive off the road and hit something yourself, and cannot prove he caused you to do it. Sucks, but that's life sometimes.

Gotta love the way that works...FWIW i didn't drive off the road...that's my point in mentioning trash day...I noticed when I turned down the street that a few of the trash hoppers seemed to be sitting further out into the street...so when I swerved right to miss the oncoming car to my left, i evidently came too close to a trash hopper, which I hit with my mirror..

What is a trash hopper? A trash can?

Look in the picture just over the side view mirror.

I think that is what he was referring to.

    Big suckers.

I just had a window fixed because the bracket that held it broke , cost over $600 . Did you fix it yourself ?

We use the same ones , but you have to leave them in your driveway or on your property . Heavy suckers when full but made out of some rubbery plastic so They're not heavy when empty . Why do they let people put them on the street , that's an accident waiting to happen .

    scottishmoney Buh bye

Just my opinion - it was better you hit the trash dumpster instead of letting the other car hit you - you may have very well avoided much more damage and having to deal with with the hassle of more damage and another driver etc. It is crazy, but if the repair is not significantly more than the deductible you are just better off not messing with insurance because it will likely make your rates jump because of what is judged to be an at fault claim.

@rzage they are supposed to be I'm the drivewy, all too often people are careless and they haphazardly roll them out and let them land where they land.

@scottishmoney you hit nail on the head my man.

Why not just put your foot on the break pedal and wait till it was clear. I drive for a living and I'm just amazed at how many people will run into something other than slowing down and avoiding the hazard.
