For the people who know. I just got this 1953 D Roosevelt dime in today and was
wondering if it could be a D/D RPM. The first photo shows a nice Die gouge on the nostril. Looks more defined in person. The second photo looks like a D/D South. Can you help me. Thanks Mark 195322.jpg 19532.jpg

In the Cherrypickers' Guide by Bill Fivaz, doesn't have that one listed. The only one listed of that date and mint. The first "D" was installed horizontally, then placed correctly. It's listed as FS-10-1953D-501; CONECA RPM 3 on page 88. I have no update. I did not say that it was a d/d. I stated that there was not one listed. It does look as md. Shelf looking.

It doesn't look like a D/D to me. Note that the top part of the D is very thin. This shouldn't occur if the m/m was repunched.

What you are seeing on the mm is MD. This is caused by a loose die shifting during the strike. It is not an RPM.

Thanks for the replies. As I was on the Variety Vista website, I was reviewing the 1953 D/D Southwest & the FS-10-1953D-501 they both mention the die gouge or chip on the nostril. Its just interesting that this coin has the die gouge or chip as mentioned as that was why I was hoping for a D/D

That doesn't look like a die gouge. It looks like a contact mark. A die gouge would be raised. Is the area you are talking about raised or incuse?

The die gouge is raised. It is hard to get a nice photo of it. Under a 10X magnifier, it appears like debris is on the coin and should be wiped off. If it wasn't in a holder, you could definitely feel it.
