Reputable TPGs likely will not certify Henning nickels considering they're counterfeit and weren't minted by the government.
They will not certify them. They have been doing all they can with buybacks etc to take the Micro-O Morgans that were certified before they were determined to be counterfeit off of the market. I am actively looking for a slabbed Micro-O Vam-5 Morgan from 1900 in a TPG holder... BTW there are two known types of the '44 Henning. One with the little loop in the R of Pluribus and another much less common variety without the loop.
I would think ICG might be willing to certify one as what it is, a Henning counterfeit. And PCGS and NGC DO slab some counterfeits, you just have to have the right ones. You can find contemporary counterfeit Conders in NGC slabs. You can find Machins Mills pieces in both PCGS and NGC slabs. They are contemporary counterfeits too.
Have $2,500 laying around? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1900-O-Micr...06?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item566a212a72
These are soooo well known, I doubt that any TPG would certify them. The quality sucks and the markers are as plain as the nose on a face.
Oh really - there has to be some crappy TPG out there, thinking of one that went down the toilet, but there are also "self slabbers" like the guy in CT or RI.
I don't think you will find any grading company that grades them as real, you may find some company that calls them out as a famous counterfeit....
Self slabbers are not TPG's as the term TPG refers specifically to either PCGS, NGC, ANACS, or ICG. Anybody else simply has no credibility. But, this is my opinion. Others may not agree.
At the show yesterday I was reading an old issue (May 12th 2014) of Coin World when I ran across something I had forgotten. ICG WILL slab counterfeits now with a special label for "educational purposes" on request. So ICG will slab a Henning. Here is a link to the article http://www.coinworld.com/content/cw...nal-slab-service-for-altered-fake-coins.html#
