Under a loupe, there's not a hairline to be found, and this date is known to have strike weakness, which this one has. But do you think she'll grade? And what? I'm thinking AU58 at the moment.
I wants it! Give it to us prrrrecious! I really like the toning on it, grade wise? I'd agree on high XF range.
Well, I do see some strike weakness there, but I would not go outright and call it an AU58...I'm thinking more AU50-53 range.
I would say a happy medium would be AU-53 as well. It just doesnt look like a 58 to me. I dont feel the images are showing enough luster left for that call. I also think this coin has a nice old dip with good toning, anyone else feel like that isnt an original surface despite the nice toning? (The middle two images are making me lean towards being dipped)
Seems to have been dipped in the past, but what I would consider a market acceptable cleaning. I'm personally not a huge fan of the mottled toning look, but a nice coin overall. I'd go AU-53.
The AU grades are pretty much about how much luster is remaining. That is very hard to judge from photos and in this case I think could go from XF45 to AU 53. Nice color though, definitely an appealing coin.
The mushiness in the eagle's legs and the arrow knock down the grade. Looks like the coin has retoned from an old cleaning or dip, but it looks like some parts are getting closer to the terminal toning stage where the coin will turn darker. AU50-AU53 IMO.
Super-weak strike? It really looks like wear, esp. in the area below the shield. I guess it doesn't matter now as PCGS has decided there's no wear
Yeah I was convinced they would call it AU58. It's beautiful, but 63 is a bit of a stretch. Then again, I am not a Seated quarter guy and 57's were plagued by a weak strike...
I am happy for you but I am shocked at the same time. I think PCGS must've outsourced the grading of this coin to CO or WA cause someone was high when they slabbed it 63, IMHO that is.
