I don't think I've ever seen one like this... Ben http://cgi.ebay.com/1807-CHOICE-CAP...969QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item150094727862
cool I dont see a problem, she got tired of laying on her left side, so she rolled over and put on a cap to cover her messy hair!
Ben, As I am learning, coins for the era have many many different varities/dies. Just looking quickly I see something different about this coin compared to a few other examples. The AM of America on the reverse has curled letters at the bottom of the auction coin. The other examples I have found are very straight for these two letters. Is this just another example of different die types? Examples barrowed from the internet. Thanks Darryl
No, it's a poor quality modern fake, I'd imagine made of pewter. The letters are all discombobulated when compared to other KNOWN examples and the obvious difference in Eagles (this one looking like a sinister falcon) give it away. Take Care Ben
Darryl, Your correct, the letters are incorrect for the known varieties. Plus the Eagle appears to be an unknown type of Bird-Of-Prey It's a fake copy. Take Care Ben
oops I do see now the had two different halves in 1807, but the details are all messed up on that "coin".
The listing was removed. I also found this http://cgi.ebay.com/1883-5C-Shield-3-over-2-EF-40-MS-60_W0QQitemZ130081976517QQihZ003QQcategoryZ11952QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting where the seller posted a question from the ANA. This is the first time I have seen something like this.
It was a funny counterfeit. I still find the morgans, that are dated say 1889-cc and have the design of the 1921 morgans, more funny.
