Oh no I hear them all shout. Another Severan denarius!

I must admit to being quite happy about adding this one and inviting it to join it's bretheren on my hoard.

So I ask you, what is it that makes me happy about this one? Doug will likely spot my justification immediately.

Sweet new addition, Martin (atta-boy) ...

Ummm, is the deity holding a couple of trout and a birthday cake? (very cool)

For a minute there I thought your thread title was a Harry Potter reference. But I just looked up the spell I was thinking of, and it's Sectum-sempra. I guess "Severus" as in, Severus Snape was confusing me and I got my hobbies crossed. :sorry:

Anyhow, nice coin! One day I will get into ancients.

Nice pickup, but I don't see what it is about this particular coin.

Easy, Its Bonus Eventus standing there and the engraving says Spes, which it's not.

Knowing Martin, probably more then that though.

Indeed. BONA SPES legend should lead to Spes as the deity. Like this

In this case we have Fides who should turn up with legend BONI EVENTVS like this...

These errors often go unnoticed by sellers and do occur in the opposite direction with BONI EVENTVS legend and Spes like this...

Upside down "N or M" in BONA SPES. Supposed to be "N" of course, but looks like a upside down M to me.

We could have quite a show of errors on these coins but we need to remember that IF the guys at the mint were literate in any language it probably was not Latin. I suspect it was not Greek either. There are way more errors on these than on the average series. Are they worth paying extra for? I tend to wait and see what comes next. After all, I will never have the collection of Martin or the British Museum.

Got this one? I don't care what language you speak, this should not have happened.

Spes, standing left, holding birthday cake and candles?
