Latest coin to share is a caracalla denarius I picked up for a total of $15. A very common reverse but the year it was struck/legend, is a tad scarcer then the usual ones minted in 212 & 213 A.D., so I found when looking around. Caracalla (198 - 217 A.D.) AR Denarius O: ANTONINVS PIVS AVG GERM, laureate head right. R: P M TR P XVII — COS IIII P P, nude Hercules standing half-left, holding branch and club upward, lion’s skin draped over arm. Rome Mint 214 A.D. 3g 20mm RIC 239. RSC 244
Nice pick-up, Mat ... ya gotta love the good ol' Hecules reverse (cool coin) My only Caracalla example is one my sweet all-time favs ...
On both coins shown the reverse appeals more to me than the portrait. On the only one i have of Caracalla this is just the opposite. Bought it solely because of the bold portrait.
As far as value for money is concerned that is very hard to beat. A nice scowling portrait, full legends on both sides and a good reverse. What is not to like?
