While I was originally thinking more in terms of something on the forum, if someone would like to take on the project of making a token or medallion I'd be happy to endorse it as the "official" CoinTalk Commemorative. I just don't have the time or money to run something like that on my own this week.
Josh, if you wanted to do something that would be more likely to go over well, a good idea would be to setup a CoinTalk shirt shop on a service like Cafepress or Spreadshirt. There are other services like that too, I don't know which is best, and those don't require any upfront fees. If you have some graphic design talent (which I do not), everyone could go there and buy themselves nice CoinTalk shirts. My only stipulation would be that the shirts are at cost to the members here.
What about a thread where every post has to have a coin image with a related '12' on it someplace, duplicate coins allowed.
How about some kind of special anniversary logo? Perhaps we can have a handful of members (who ever has the skill and wants too...if anyone does) submit designs. Perhaps a few finalists could be picked out and we could vote. Maybe the winning design gets used on the site for a month or two...to commemorate the anniversary.
While you guys are all deciding what and how, let's not forget the last time the forum tried to decide on something and just how well that worked out - https://www.cointalk.com/threads/lets-vote-for-t-shirts.120366/ Point is the anniversary is almost here, and yet the deciding hasn't even started. Do you see the problem ?
Personally, I liked desertgem's idea in post 85. Fun, easy to do, and doesn't cost us anything. If anyone wants to do a t-shirt, token, medallion, they should just run with it.
On a separate note... I found out how much security paper costs. It's more than I thought it might be, but still likely too affordable to avoid counterfeiting. Prices for 8.5x11 watermarked counterfeit deterrent paper 500 Sheets $230 1,000 Sheets $275 2,000 Sheets $480 3,000 Sheets $690 5,000 Sheets $990 10,000 Sheets $1850 I was originally thinking we could make certificates (that members would pay for), but I can't see each member willing to pay $5 for a certificate, and even then, it'd be at a loss (due to low order numbers and postage costs).
I like the Token Coin idea We should ask Mike Dixon at Battlefield Coins Shows where he gets the ones he has made up for the 3 coins shows this year.
