Trajan is one of my favorite emperors yet I only have a few of his coins-- and one was just a random mixed lot find. Several of his coins are on my "find" list though.

Here's one of my earliest ancient purchases, a provincial of Trajan from Arados. The obverse is so unusual, with the deity in the forefront and emperor behind her. The artist did a nice job capturing the perspective.

    Trajan-Astarte.jpg
    PHOENICIA, Arados
    Trajan. AD 98-117

    CY 375 (AD 116/7)
    Æ22, 9.65 g
Obv: draped bust of Astarte-Europa right; before, small laureate and draped bust of Trajan
    Rev: bull charging left
Reference: SNG Copenhagen 81; BMC 374

A tiny bronze from Alexandria, with a rhino (I poached on medoraman's turf :D)
    TrajanRhinoDichalkon.jpg
    EGYPT, Alexandria. Trajan
    year 17, 113/4 AD
    AE dichalkon
    Obv: Laureate head right
Rev: rhino standing left; LIZ above
    Ref: Emmett 719v(17) R5, BMC 500
Emmett rates these as R5 but I've seen many of them for sale. I think it's R1 or R2 in the real world.

And a nicely toned denarius from a large mixed lot:
    SML-TrajanHerculesDenarius.jpg
    Trajan, 98-117 AD
    AR denarius, Rome, 101-102 AD
    18 mm, 3.7 gm
Obv: [IMP CA]ES NERVA TRAIAN AVG GERM, laureate head right
Rev: P M TR P COS IIII P P, statue of Hercules standing facing, draped in lion skin, holding club and apple
Ref: RIC II 49, BMC 86, RSC 234?, Cohen 236?

Great coins, TIF. That facing pose of Hercules is odd though, and a bit creepy.
