OTACILIA SEVERA AR antoninianus, 4.8g, 23mm, 244-249 AD OBV: MARCIA OTACIL SEVERA AVG, Diademed draped bust right on crescent. REV: PVDICITIA AVG, Pudicita seated left, raising veil, holding scepter. REF: RIC 123c, RSC 53 This is the last coin in the order. I'm also not calling it a slot filler like the others but this coin has it's problems. The reverse is rather rough but I do like this coin and got it for a decent price. The dealer says the coin is heavy.
4.8g is heavy but this series has a lot of variation. I have a 4.4g one and a 2.8g. I have three Philips over 5g so there is really nothing about weight on these that should be of concern. The type also comes in a sestertius but without the crescent under the bust which is the double indicator as is the radiate crown of males.
Holy frick => "another" Daryl coin!! (wow, great effort, brother!! ... out-standing, glutonousness!!) Oh my => I love OTACILIA SEVERA break-away!!! ... please enjoy my 3rd most expensive coin (28 mm & 15.99 grams) => Sestertius-Hippo-ness-expensive-ness (I love it)
That is interesting that there are weight variations among these coins. I realize that many ancient coin series are like that and some are pretty much very close to each other in weight. Nice sestertius. I have an As. of Philip I, a very low grade example.
Thank ya coin bro. Very nice coin you have there. That sounds like a good idea for a thread. "Post Your Most Expensive Coins". Unless of course that some might be too sensitive about mentioning how much they paid for a coin.
Hey Gg ... I also have an Otacila Severa, AR Antoninianus (RIC 129) ... => 23 mm and a chubby 5.0 grams (it has lil' extra meat around the edges)
All my coins arrived today in the mail. So happy right now and that also boosts me up to 88 Roman Imperial rulers. Getting close to that BIG 90.
