    I'm loving it!! I've seen and held a couple a shilling and a three pence and a couple pine trees but I've never owned one still trying to buy the one a friend found in an early house he was taking down. Yup right here in Maine :)

    He's not the only one feels that way. It does help the resale value of coins especially coins their tough on like proofs and gold

    It makes the coin more liquid...so from a sellers standpoint it's a big benefit.

    Hey Matt...completely on a side thought here. Clearly, there are rare varieties of these coins. Being someone who deals with the TPGs regularly...do you know why they don't like to get into too many varieties? Is it because there are SO many they don't want to risk mis-attributing something...or is it something else?

    Matt, Since you are kinda a bid deal, could you get NGC to start attributing them? I know that Gerry Fortin had good luck getting NGC to recognize and slab his top 100 seated varieties. I know that designation / attribution sprawl has downsides, but asking for something very specific such as the shilling variety might pay off in the medium to long term. There was another member here that got the TPG to start recognizing a certain variety, I forget who. Anyways, it is possible.

    I mean, they have oodles of crappy slab label varieties, I would think something more legit like coin varieties might not be that hard a sell. ;)

    I would think that it might have to do with the popularity of the series. There is a somewhat limited spectrum of people that collect these by die variety. It's a cost prohibitive series for the average collector. I'm sure people aren't beating down the door for attributions.

    From my experience today (having to call a colonial/EAC friend of mine) and the fact that Heritage seems to have not attributed it correctly... These are VERY hard to distinguish die pairings.

    That might also put the TPGs in a difficult position...make a mistake and it costs them big money. Might be another reason they don't do it...in addition to what you mentioned.

    Only PCGS, they are the only one now that guarantees attributions. (And that is a recent change for them as well. It used to be they didn't guarantee attributions either.)
