Hello All, i found this sestertius two weeks ago with my metaldetector. best find ever. i was lucky it lay in clay, because our soil is very accid like by nature and also heavy fertilization. it is back in olive oil, have to clean it more. all the best, eric
Nice find Eric! Very cool that you can find Roman coins while metal detecting over in Europe. I suppose that's one of the advantages of metal detecting on the other side of the pond. Metal detecting over here in the US, I'd feel lucky if I found an Indian Head Cent over 100 years old. LOL.
Congrats, brother ... I agree with my North American friends (it must be very exciting to have a chance at finding one of our sweet hobby-coins!!) ... well done (great effort) ...
yes, very exciting, many people where living on artifisial hills called Terp. http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terp there were no Dikes, at that time see pic those people traded with romans, so we have some coins here. and fibula's http://www.iamexpat.nl/expat-page/the-netherlands/the-dutch-and-water-in-the-netherlands people lived on those terps for 1000 years.
