Well it's been a while since we've had a Nabataean to drool over on this forum so here you go. A very well struck example. As JA has mentioned before, these coins are usually found weakly struck, on small flans, and off center. Makes you wonder why we collect them doesn't it? Although the flan is small the coin is well centered and well struck with full legends. 15 mm diameter and a little plump at 3.08 grams. Obverse: Jugate heads of King Malichus II and Queen Shuqalait. Letter mem (Malichus) behind kings head, letter shin (Shuqalait). Reverse: Crossed cornucpiae, above and below in three line Malichus/Shuqai/lat.
Nice coin. I still haven't managed to get a Nabataean coin yet, even though they seem to be affordable.
I like it very much! It's an excellent example of the type, with the full lettering of the king and queen's names on the reverse, both busts, and even the initials. You really can't do much better with these. Nice find!
very sweet pick-up ..... sadly, I'm pretty sure that I don't have a Nabataean example "yet" (I have a growing wish-list ... one of these is somewhere on it ... ummm, right behind vandal coin and ostrogoths ... ) ... congrats on a super-cool addition (good eye)
nice coin askea...i recently did some nabatean shopping, and that one seems much prettier than most. if JA gives a nabatean his seal of approval...it's a sweet coin.
