Can someone explain the meaning of an Accented Hair Kennedy Half that is described by Heritage Coin as ephemeral. It looks like the coins with this description lack that 'normal' proof finish , also without the normal cameo appearance , yet they seem to be graded deep / ultra cameo.

    ephemeral \ih-FEM-er-ul\, adjective:
    1. Beginning and ending in a day; existing only, or no longer than, a day; as, an ephemeral flower.
    2. Short-lived; existing or continuing for a short time only.

I assume that they must mean that it was a short lived type of coin or that they will have them for a short time.

They mean it's hard for the untrained eye to see the difference between an Accented Hair and a regular Kennedy half.

Use the second definition that madspec listed,short-lived. Only the first 100,000 proof kennedys were the Accented Hair variety.

You also say that they lack the "normal cameo appearance". In 1964 there was no such thing as a "normal" cameo appearance. The normal appearnace for proof coins from1936 to 1972 were brilliant proofs with little or no contrast between the devices and the fields. Coins with cameo contrast from this period are not normal but are unsual and in high demand. When they do appear they usually do not have anywhere near the amount of contrast seen on the post 1972 cameo proofs.
